A pervading sense of history and place as well as the inner lives of women connects Scottish writers working today: Sandra Ireland, author of Bone Deep, and Sarah Maine, author of Women of the Dunes. Join us for a discussion of their novels, writing practice and what it is like to be a female Scottish writer today.

About Sandra Ireland

Sandra Ireland was born in Yorkshire, lived for many years in Limerick, and is now based in Carnoustie. She began her writing career as a correspondent on a local newspaper but quickly realised that fiction is much more intriguing than fact. Her debut novel was called Beneath the Skin, set in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Bone Deep is her second novel.

About Sarah Maine

Sarah Maine was born in England but grew up partly in Canada, returning to the UK for university where she studied archaeology. She now works as a freelance researcher, lecturer and writer, combining an interest in the past with a love of travel and an outdoor life. Her novels are The House Between the Tides, Beyond the Wild River and Women of the Dunes.
